ABSTRACT

Background: Adolescents, primarily in their last years of high school, may possess varying perspectives on consumerism, LGBT issues, and pornography culture, particularly when contrasted to preceding generations. Given this reality and the pressing nature of the situation, the majority of young individuals still require familial assistance and direction. What matters the most typically originate from one’s own household. If we are able to identify the components involved, it is plausible that we can modify their character to a more favourable one. Methodology: The family characteristics examined in this study include parental occupation, employment status, cohabitation with parents, communication methods with parents, parental marital status, and parental role modelling. The researchers seek to identify the familial variables that can empower young individuals in resisting materialism, shaping their perspectives on LGBT issues, and addressing pornography. This study employs a purposive sampling strategy to choose a sample of 222 senior high school students in Jakarta. Results: The researchers primarily employ the Classification Tree method in this study to identify the key factors influencing various aspects. Firstly, they determine that the parents’ occupation has the greatest impact on the level of materialism at home. Secondly, they find that the observations made by individuals from their parents have the most significant influence on their perception of the LGBT paradigm. Lastly, they discover that the observations made by individuals from their parents also have the strongest influence on their perception of the paradigm surrounding pornography. Subsequently, this paper will go into the findings of the research.
